At Coffee World Ltd, we ensure that each bean meets our high standards. Here's an overview of our milling process:

  1. Hulling: We use specialised machinery to remove the parchment skin or dried fruit covering from the coffee beans. This is the first step in preparing the beans for further processing.
  2. Polishing:The beans undergo polishing to remove any remaining silver skin, resulting in green coffee beans ready for the next stage.
  3. Sorting and Cleaning:The beans are meticulously sorted and cleaned using machinery to remove any debris. This ensures that only the best beans make it through.
  4. Hand Sorting:Our skilled workers carefully hand-sort each bean to guarantee quality. This final step is conducted by a team of skilled women, ensuring efficiency and attention to detail.

Throughout the process, we prioritise precision and care to deliver exceptional coffee to our customers.

Coffee World's Kampala:

Our Robusta Mill and Export Warehouse: Ensuring Quality

Located on Plot No. 666, Bombo Road, Kawempe, our premises feature well built warehouses and a Robusta mill. Here, incoming coffee undergoes careful sorting and recording. Equipped with pallet racks and essential security measures, our team efficiently manages truck loading and unloading for seamless transportation from the farmers and to Mombasa for export.

At our Kampala site, we process Robusta coffee sourced from villages across the country. Robusta beans are collected from various areas due to their different harvesting seasons, ensuring a steady coffee supply year-round. We purchase green beans from local buying points in villages, transport them to Kampala, and process them.

Our key sourcing areas include Central Uganda (Luweero, Masaka, and Kapeeka) and Western Uganda (Mbarara, Rukungiri, Ntungamo, and Kasese). This diverse strategy allows us to access high-quality coffee from different regions, resulting in a rich and varied blend of flavours in our final product.

The Robusta beans undergo air-drying in a specialised system capable of handling 18 tons at a time. Typically, this process takes about an hour, depending on moisture levels. Following drying, the coffee undergoes pre-cleaning to remove contaminants such as plastics and maize cobs.

Next, the milling process begins. The coffee passes through a de-stoner to remove stones before proceeding to the grader, where it's sorted into three grades based on bean size: Screen 18, Screen 15, and Screen 12.

Subsequently, the coffee undergoes gravity table processing, which removes lightweight and insect-damaged beans. Finally, the coffee undergoes colour sorting.

At peak capacity, we process about 60 tons in 24 hours, operating day and night during peak seasons, six days a week. Once processed, the coffee is prepared for export and stacked on pallets.

Our office block facilitates export operations, while perimeter wall and gate security ensure the premises remain secure.
