Coffee World's partnership with the Women Coffee Alliance is at the heart of our mission. Our joint efforts focus on practical skills development for Ugandan women, enabling them to improve their coffee farming techniques and create a sustainable future for themselves and their communities.

Here, in the heart of Africa, coffee is more than a crop; it's a lifeline for the hardworking, often unsung women in the coffee fields. For these women, coffee farming is relentless and critical. It underpins their families' survival, supports their communities, and counters the challenges of a nation still grappling with the effects of poverty and health crises. Their labour in the fields is a testament to resilience, a struggle for a better future carried out under the relentless African sun, yet their contributions are frequently overlooked.

At Coffee World, we recognise the imbalance and are committed to change. While women play a significant role in the Ugandan coffee industry, providing the majority of the labour, they are underrepresented as primary decision-makers and heads of coffee-producing households. Studies indicate that only 19-28% of coffee-producing households are headed by women. This gender gap underscores the persistent inequality faced by women in the sector, despite their crucial contributions. Empowering more women to own and manage coffee farms is essential for progress.

Our mission is not just to produce excellent coffee but to ensure that the women who make it possible are seen, respected, and given the opportunities they deserve. By working hand-in-hand with them, providing them with essential tools and the latest agricultural insights, we strive to enhance the quality of their produce and their livelihoods.

Every batch of Coffee World coffee is a story of hard work, quality, and dignity. It's the story of women who transform everyday challenges into opportunities for empowerment and growth. This is the essence of Coffee World – where every cup carries the spirit of Africa, the strength of its women, and the hope of a better tomorrow woven into every harvest.

Our Role in Industry Equality

We actively work with organisations like the African Fine Coffees Association and the Uganda Coffee Federation to advocate for gender equality in the coffee industry. Our goal is to ensure women have equal opportunities and recognition in every aspect of coffee production and trade.

We are dedicated to creating a sustainable and equitable environment where women's contributions are acknowledged and valued. This commitment is ingrained in every step of our process, from sourcing beans to selling the final product.

We also invest in full membership with industry bodies such as:

  • IWCA (International Women Coffee Alliance) Uganda chapter, since 2010 (we are also board members)
  • UCF (Uganda Coffee Alliance) since 2009 (we were on the board for two terms)
  • AFCA (African Fine Coffee Alliance) since 2015
